Ostre Bardo I

Ostre Bardo was the start of the first trip on my last day in Poland. The night before I drove from the west side of the border to here, a sixty kilometers to the east. I spent the night in Bartoszyce, one of the few cities in this area in a good and affordable hotel. After breakfast at 8 'o clock I drove to Ostre Bardo. It's eastward from the main road from Bartoszyce to Bagrationovsk. I was wondering if the border guards would also find me here today. Yesterday I told that I would be here in this area today. So they were warned. Of course they found me, but not here yet and only after some hours!

I drove to an old thoroughfare east of Ostre Bardo and parked close to it. Then I walked to borderpoles 2253. They are near the river Lyna that crosses the border here. From 2253 it goes straight downhill to the river as you see on the picture. The river itself is guarded by cameras. One of them is on the green box which contains more electronics. I had to keep the 15 meter distance, otherwise I would soon get in trouble.
I could see the borderpole pair 2252 on the other side of the river, but it was too far to make a picture of them.

A picture with some details, at least you can read the number. The meaning of the stone in front is not clear to me.
Curious to see the stump of a chopped tree on the left. That means in earlier days there was not such a broad strip as there is now.
III-1 20140407 Bridge
Just after crossing the Lyna, the border passes a short but steep valley. I think this bridge was made for the border guards for inspection. There were many footprints of their boots on the path to it. As the bridge was just out of the 15 meter zone, I could use it without risk.

The raod where I parked the car ends here. A rather flat and empty landscape. A bareer on the old thoroughfare to Russia.
Behind the bareed a well used inpsection road.

For the first time I see a kind of a fence on the Russian side. Untill now, I only saw woods on the Russian side but here it's a bit more open. There are even some signs on the Russian side. When I enlarged this picture on my computer, I could read '2254' on one of them. That's the number of the borderpoles.

Some hundred meters to the west I photographed this 2255 pair. Of course I had to take some distance. Again on the background some fences can be seen.

A closer look at the fence on the Russian side. I had to use a telelens for this, so the quality is not that good. The fence looks pretty high and dangerous. The sign on its contains the number 2255, that's the number of the borderpoles nearby. Behind this fence, I saw close to here, there are some fields and small roads. That means, there is activity. Most probably this it the way they protect the border. As they usually keep a zone of about 500 meters, you don't see these fences from the Polish side of the border. But here you do.

Again some hundred meters to the east there were the borderpoles 2256. I walked over the fields to reach them. The clay was stickey and wet. No so easy.

Near the borderpoles and close the inspection road there is this little shed/home. Would it be used by the border guards? Or by hunters? I don't know.
III-1 20140407 Area with my car
Back to the car. A flat and empty landscape. On the small roads everywhere the traces of the border guards' SUVs.
