Bordermarkers 478 - 485
The most remarkable part of the tour was the visit to the border between Transnistria (PMR) and Ukraine. Only some weeks before this trip I wrote to The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Transnistria (they call it PMR, Pridnestrovskaya Moldavskaya Respublika, ПРИДНЕСТРОВСКОЙ МОЛДАВСКОЙ РЕСПУБЛИКИ) and as by a miracle they agreed on my plans to take some pictures of the border markers. During my visit I would be accompanied by 'representatives of the border authorities'. Which indeed took place after some delays.
Entrance
When you enter PMR by car you arrive in what looks like a war zone with a military atmosphere. Russian tanks and flags, soldiers with Kalashnikovs. You don't get the impression to be welcomed in a peaceful and hospitable country.
But once you are in after some long lasting formalities, you have to forget this and enjoy the strange world of Pridnestrovie.

East of Tiraspol the border between Ukraine and Transnistria runs close along the road for quite some kilometers. A straight and uninteresting part, but easy to reach and therefore worth visiting.
Roads are almost empty, just like the whole country.

The border runs here along the road. During this part of the tour a was accomanied by a representative of the Ministry. He permitted me to take pictures. I didn't stop everywhere but took only some pictures. Here the borders makes an angle. You can recognize the ditch as demarcation. On the background there is a kind of strip on the Ukrainian side.
The border markers used are the same as used between Moldova and Ukraine for the sub-markers. So no long pillars in national colours with national symbols. I wonder if there is a real border treaty between PMR and UA.

It looks if there is a fence behind the border on Ukrainian ground.

A sub-marker along the road. I wondered what would have happened if I took pictures here without permission or guidance. Maybe it was possible, but I noticed patrolling soldiers on several places. So I guess you will be noticed soon.

It caused some trouble to take this picture. The border marker is located close to a small border crossing between Ukraine and PMR. The Russian soldiers at the crossing point didn't agree that I would take pictures. So I was only allowed to take a picture of the border marker, but no pictures of the small barrack which was on the right. I even had to delete a picture with a simple traffic sign which indicated the road to Hrebenyky.
This picture however was allowed.
