Map 0011-0020 Between Criva and Lipcani. A remote and uninhabited area, some markers are hard to reach.
Border marker 0011 The border leaves the creek.
Border marker 0012 Although remote, the Ukrainians made a deep ditch. I wonder why the Moldovans sometimes decorate the area of the border markers with white stones.
Border marker 0013 This pair was hard to reach. No road or path, only dense forest. On Ukrainian side there was open space. Some Ukrainian uniformed woodcutters permitted us to use the open space on their side. Close to BM 0013 the ditch appeared again.
Border marker 0014 On Ukrainian side there is a small rural road which runs very close to the border. Extra bared wire to avoid illegal border crossing.
Border marker 0015 The small Ukrainian road leaves the border here. On Moldovan side hard to reach.
Border marker 0016 The border makeas an angle to the east and runs through a small lake. No ditch yet here.
Border marker 0017 On Ukrainian side again the same rural road. I think it's not publicly accessable. From Moldovan side this pair of border markers was hard to reach. We had to walk for half an hour to reach it. No path or road through abandoned farmlands.
Border marker 0018 Also not easy to reach. The small road on the map didn't exist any longer so we had to walk through the woods or through the very sticky clay in the fields to reach it.
Border marker 0019 Close to the railroad in Lipcani. The railroad is in use for freight trains between Criva where there is a big stone mine and Ukraine where the stones are used. This railroad crosses the border a few times.
Border marker 0020 At the local border crossing Lipcani-Podvirivka. This border crossing is only in use for local traffic. Once there was a duty-free store, but it's closed now. Not much traffic here: mainly pedestrians between the surrounding villages. The whole setting looks a bit bleak and dilapidated |
