Latvia - Belarus, Meikšānu

Coming from the border near Zlilupe, I drove to the tripoint LV-RU-BY.
Just before arriving there from the Latvian side, I visited this 'hidden' border crossing Meikšānu. It's only one kilometer from the tripoint. I didn't know it exists, it's not mentioned on Openstreetmaps or on Google Maps. I just saw a sign "Meikšānu RPP" and decided to go there. 'RPP' is Latvia means 'bordercrossing'. A small sandy road brought me to this little border crossing. Two elder lady-border guards opened the gate. I guess I was their only guest today, this is a desolated area. The ladies didn't speak English, but they were very friendly and helpsome. They called a colleague who spoke English and to her I explained my wish to visit the border and to make some pictures. I also announced to visit the tripoint, some kilometers from here. It was all right! Of course the English speaking lady warned me not to cross the border, but she wished me good luck and didn't forbid me to go to the tripoint. One of the ladies joined me at the bordercrossing Meikšānu until the bordermarkers and back.

III-1 20140407 Sign to the bordercrossing
On my way to the tripoint this signs caught my attention. I decided to follow the road to Meikšānu RPP.
III-1 20140407 Crossing in the woods
I had to turn left to reach Meikšānu RPP. Straight ahead was the road to the tripoint. It was forbidden to go there. After my visit to Meikšānu RPP I just took the road towards the tripoint. The little hutch on the left was abandoned and neglected.
III-1 20140407 Fence
The small dirt track ended at a fence and an open space in the wood. Absolute silence here. Opened between 09.00 and 17.00. It was my lucky day, it was 10 AM.
III-1 20140407 The gate
The gate was closed but after a minute a friendly femal border guard opened it for me.
III-1 20140407 X-ray installation
Like on most bordercrossings to RU an X-ray installation. I don't know what they expect here. The lady guided me over the lawn to avoid it.
III-1 20140407 The road to Belarus
A nice view on the border. On the left the borderpoles 006, in the middle a sand strip and on the right the borderpoles 007.
And as you see, totally on the left a gate that makes it possible to close the border.
III-1 20140407 Belarusian side
A close-up of the Belarusian side. A bareer, a small office and a poor green car. It looks like the car I saw on the Russian side during my trip to the Polish-Russian border in April 2015.
III-1 20140407 Sand strip
Not that many cars passed the border since the sand strip was raked.
In the middle of the picture is the small river Zilupe, the border river.
III-1 20140407 Borderpole 006
The Latvian lady border guard was looking a bit scared when I took this picture. I wasn't allowed to get any closer to the border while taking this picture of the border marker. It gives a nive overview of when you enter Latvia from the Belarusian side.

This one I couldn't approach that close.
After this little tour on this cute border crossing I went to the tripoint. After visiting that I went to Šķaune, only 10 kilometers to the south west.
