Lithuania - Belarus I

From the tripoint LV-BY-LT to the Lake Drūkšiai is only a few kilometers. Although I lost some time for getting the permission, I could make the hike to the lake long before it was getting dark. So I walked from the tripoint to the lake, using the inpection paths. A very interesting hike!
I didn't notice any border guard during my visit, which by the way doesn't mean they didn't notice me.

The tripoint is a bit up-hill. Going down it's a bit swampy, as on the Belarusian side there is a beautiful small lake. To make border inspection possible, they made nice duckboards along the border.

Also on the Lithuanian side there are duckboards, even with a handrail. Although the construction is a bit rickety, it was of great help to avoid wet feet! On the background you can se the tripoint.

The last pair between Lithuania and Belarus.Situated in a swampy area.
III-1 20140407 Inspection road
An inspection road on Belarusian side. Remarkable are the traffic signs and the markers along the small roads which are barely used -and only for border inspection.
I noticed this phenomena already near Salsininkai.
III-1 20140407 Borderpoles 1795
Some hundred meters from the pair 1976 I found these ones. I had to take the picture through the loopholes of a fence.
III-1 20140407 Fence
A short fence. Not clear to me why just here the short fence. There is no road or access to the border in this area.
III-1 20140407 Cave
Through the loopholes I noticed a cave on Belarusian side. Probably used by the Belarusian border guards to hide themselves. Although they barely inspect the border...

These poles are also located behind the fence. The lens of my small Sony camera fits through the loopholes.
III-1 20140407 Fence
The length of this fence was only about 200 or 300 meters. A look at the south. On the left Belarus, on the right Lithuania.
III-1 20140407 Duckboards 2
After passing the fence, I passed duckboards again. Still the soil is rather swampy here even in the middle of summer. The small inspection path is full of holes so you have to take care not to fall or to stumble.
III-1 20140407 Borderpoles 1793
A nice pair of borderpoles 1793. A small creek on the Lithuanian side of the border. A small dam gives access to the borderpoles.
III-1 20140407 Borderpoles 1793
The same borderpoles. Here you can recognize the numbers.
III-1 20140407 Borderpoles 1792
It looks like there is a small path on Belarusian side leading to the border.
III-1 20140407 Border
This picture was take in northern direction. So Belarus is on the right. You can recognize a small part of the sand strip at the right. Here the water is between the 'main land' and the inspection path.
